How to prevent grey hair







The natural color of the hair follicle is due to the presence of a color pigment called melanin. The biggest nightmare of human beings, especially women, is the emergence of Grey hair. Well, it is a fact that by the time and with growing age, hair turns Grey. But these days we have seen that young people below 20 or 30 years of age are looking much older than they are. The most evident signs of aging are the sagging of skin and the greying of hair. However, when the melanin pigment cells located at hair roots declines its lead to premature gray hair.
The factors like genetic predisposition, poor nutrition, smoking, hormonal fluctuation, stress, use of unsuitable hair products, pollution and certain diseases such as chronic colds, sinusitis and thyroid disorders. The lack of nourishment and heredity are the major reasons for Grey hair. We can’t stop time, no matter how much we wish, especially when it comes to age. Here are a few home remedies to battle greying hair.



1) Amla (Indian Gooseberry)
Amla which is also known as Indian Gooseberry is the most talked about ingredient in Ayurveda for all hair problems, leave alone the color of hair. A natural astringent that help retain hair color. It is an excellent for a variety of hair problems including premature graying, hair loss and dull hair. It is a rich source of antioxidant vitamin C and antioxidants, it has anti-aging benefits. It is one of the most effective home remedy to prevent Grey hair.
How to use- Boil some pieces of amla in coconut oil till it turns black and massage your hair with it to cure your grey hair naturally. For best result repeat the process twice a day.



2) Black tea or Coffee
Black tea and coffee is loaded with antioxidants and caffeine, it stimulates the hair growth and improves strength and elasticity of the hair strands to prevent brittleness and breakage of hair. The benefits of black tea/coffee is also useful for cancer prevention and cardiovascular health are well known. It adds natural dark hue to hair and makes the hair natural shine.
How to use- Take one cup of strong black tea/coffee and massage your hair and scalp with this water and wash off after an hour. Follow this remedy regularly to cure the problem of Grey hair.



3)Onion juice
Onion is one of the most effective Grey hair remedies that help in preventing premature greying of hair. Onion is an age old remedy for treating problems of hair loss and thinning hair. It is a deficiency of antioxidant catalase and deposition of hydrogen peroxide in the hair roots the two reasons for premature hair greying. It is a boost up the level of catalase, thus restoring the natural color of the hair strands.
How to use- Take out the onion juice and you can add a lemon juice in a glass bowl and apply on scalp and hair eventually. Leave it for 30 minutes wash it off with shampoo. Repeat 3-4 times a week.



4) Ribbed Ground Therapy (Torai)
Ribbed Ground Therapy or torai is one of the common vegetables that can be easily spotted in Indian Kitchen. The enzymes in ribbed gourd are known to restore the normal levels of the pigment melanin in the hair roots that help in preventing greying of hair.
The ribbed ground vegetable is an effective natural treatment for Grey hair. It also supplies essential nutrients to the hair roots to enrich and strengthen them.
How to use- Boil ribbed ground in coconut oil till it turns black for 3-4 hours. Massage the scalp with this oil cures premature greying of hair.



5) Shikakai
It is scientifically known as “Acacia Concinna”. It is use since ancient times as a natural shampoo for cleaning hair. It stimulates hair growth, prevents hair fall and being rich in Vitamin C prevents excessive dryness of the scalp thereby reducing dandruff and scalp itching and irritation.It is one of the most effective natural home remedies for preventing premature greying of hair. Shikakai pods are easily available in stores selling herbal products and can either use pods whole or crush them to form a powder.
How to use- Ground the pods in a food processor to turn it into a smooth powder. Whisk the curd and add the powder to it, mix and apply on hair. Leave it for 20 minutes and wash it off with water.

6) Curry Leaves
Curry leaves help increase darker pigmentation in your hair. One of the most common herbs used to temper Indian curries, curry leaves have amazing benefits for hair as well. Curry leave is rich in Vitamin B and it restores the functions of the natural pigment in the hair follicles that provides a shining black color to the hair strands and prevents further greying of hair. It is an effective natural Grey hair solution. Being a rich source of beta- carotene it stimulates hair growth and prevents hair fall.
How to use- Boil the curry leaves and add little coconut/olive oil until charred. Strain and massage into hair and leave it for 30-40 minutes before rinsing it out. Repeat twice a week.
