Home remedies for dark elbows and knees



Are you ashamed of having dark elbows and knees? Dark elbows and knees are the common issue that can make one self- conscious about wearing short-sleeves dresses and tops as well as skirts and shorts. An even skin tone adds beauty and having dark knees and having elbows can detract from it. Dark elbows and knees make your skin appear uneven. This is because they have more melanin pigment making it very easy to notice dark patches of skin on high friction area such as the elbow and knees. When proper care and hygiene is not maintained, the skin on the knees and elbows become much darker than other parts of your body. Dark elbows and knees occur due to no oil in the areas and the skin tends to be drier.
Some other factors that contribute to dark elbows and knees are frequent rubbing, genetic factors, overexposure to the sun, hormonal imbalance, dry skin, obesity, dead skin buildup and increase melanin pigment.

Natural home remedies are-

1)Baking Soda and milk

It is effective in cleaning the skin and reduces darkening of the skin. It acts as a gentle cleanser, hence it is effective for treating dark knees and elbows. It helps to remove dead skin cells and reduce hyper-pigmentation that forms around the knees and elbows. Baking soda is a gentle skin cleanser and natural scrub that removes dead cells and gets rid of grime.
How to use- Mix baking soda with milk and make paste apply it on the elbows and knees while rubbing in circular motion for 4-5 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water, pad dry and moisturize. Do this every alternate days for best result.

2)Coconut Oil
It is a good home remedy to lighten the dark knees and elbows. Coconut oil is rich in Vitamin E and it helps in lightening the skin tone and prevent dryness that is by keeping the skin hydrated and moisturized. It repairs and damage the skin.
How to use- Before taking bath, apply coconut oil on the knees and elbows and massage it for 5 minutes and reapply several times a day to prevent dryness. Repeat the process before taking bath daily.

3)Lemon
Lemon juice is rich in Vitamin C and it is a natural bleaching as well as exfoliating properties. It helps to remove dead cells and lighten skin tone. It can promote regeneration of healthy skin cells.
How to use- Use a brush to wipe off the dirt or sweat trapped in your elbow before applying a lemon juice. Repeat the remedy thrice a week to get better results. Apply the lemon juice on the elbow and knee and massage it for 5 minutes and leave for 20-30 minutes and wash it off with the water.

4)Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera is an age oil beauty product that is used for its natural moisturizing and skin whitening properties. It reduces the sun damage caused to the skin due to overexposure of the elbows and knees to the sun. It reverses the sun damage, removes dead skin cells and treats dryness.
How to use- Take an Aloe Vera Gel and apply it in an affected area and leave it for 20-30 minutes and wash it off with warm water. Repeat the process for 1-2 times daily.

5)Turmeric
Turmeric is a natural bleaching agent which helps to reduce melanin in the skin. Turmeric works well to lighten the skin on the elbows for those people who have a darken skin tones.
How to use- Take a turmeric powder and a rose water and make a paste, apply it to the affected area and repeat the process for 2-3 times a week for best result.

6)Sugar and olive oil scrub
Scrubbing the elbows and knees will remove flaky, dry skin cells from areas that get trapped in their creases. To lighten the skin tone of your knees and elbows and make a homemade sugar scrub. It granules help exfoliate dead cells and soften the skin. Sugar present is the home remedy that work to exfoliate and olive oil will moisturize yours skin.
How to use- Mix a sugar and the olive oil, mix it well in order to scrub it to your elbow and knees. Repeat at least 2 times a week for best result.
